Quality Director
Description
This role will be responsible for overseeing product quality across all manufacturing processes at the site. The position will play a key role in establishing and developing the site’s quality management system and leading the required certification processes, including AAR M-1003 and subsequent ISO and customer-specific certifications.
In addition, the role will be responsible for communicating North American customer product quality requirements to our existing facilities in Europe and ensuring that all required quality documentation is provided and maintained.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the railway industry and will be excited by the opportunity to build a quality system from the ground up. This is an opportunity for someone who has a strong vision for product quality and would like to shape the quality organization, processes, and standards of a new manufacturing site from the very beginning.
This role is a designated key personnel and reports directly to the CEO.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the site’s quality management system, including processes, procedures, policies, and control systems.
- Lead the site’s AAR certification process and coordinate activities required to obtain and maintain M-1003 certification. Following certification and production launch, take ownership of ongoing quality control, system maintenance, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with applicable AAR, ISO, customer-specific, and other relevant quality requirements by participating in and chairing audits.
- Monitor product and process quality and identify opportunities for continuous improvement by maintaining quality-related KPIs and reporting.
- Work closely with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and other functions to resolve quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support customer audits, product certifications, and quality-related customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
- 4 year or equivalent bachelor’s degree in related engineering fields. Post-graduate degree would be preferred but not required.
- The candidate must meet one of these requirements or a mixture of them.
- At least 3 years in a Quality role in an AAR M-1003 or related wheel shop facility.
- At least 5 years in a Quality role at a railway car builder in propulsion components.
- At least 3 years as an AAR wheel shop MID inspector.
- At least 10 years of experience in a Quality role in a metal and machining industry.
- Experience with PPAP, Gage R&R, FAI, RCA, 5Y, and related quality methods
- Advanced computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel

Job type & Location
Full-time, On- site, based in the Wayland, NY area; and may need up to 30 miles of commute while the facility is set up.
Compensation
Negotiable.
